The Salt- July 2022

We feel very privileged to live and work in such a pristine natural environment. The east coast of Tasmania has some of the cleanest and most nutrient rich waters in the world, which allows us to harvest a product that is truly exceptional. We are incredibly grateful that this coastline has been protected and nurtured for thousands of years before we came here, and we would like to recognise and acknowledge the Poredareme and Loontitetermairelehoinner people, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Tasman Sea Salt is located.

It is known that the coastline of Tasmania was of great significance and provided a wealth of resources that nourished tribes all year round. Thanks to them, these waters continue to have thriving ecosystems and provide incredible resources thousands of years on, including our pure sea salt, which is rich in sea minerals and nutrients.

The Poredareme and Loonititetermairrelehoinner people are part of the oldest continuing culture in the world, and they cared for, managed, and protected this land and sea, that is so integral to the quality of Tasman Sea Salt, for thousands of years. We are committed to celebrating, reflecting, and paying our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people this month, and ongoingly.

We would like to continue to share the great work of Nita Education which was founded in 2017 by Trish and Craig, both proud palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) people. Their organisation provides Tasmanian Aboriginal cultural experiences to schools and businesses across Tasmania, inspiring connection to their 50,000+ year old culture and encouraging young palawa/pakana to embrace their culture.

Sharing our culture, history and heritage is the most important part of who I am. I believe that everyone who lives in or visits lutruwita (Tasmania) should be exposed in some way to the most ancient living culture on Earth. Our culture is how we connect to milaythina (Country), and how we connect to each other, if we are connected then we can protect, conserve, grow and prosper together.
